“If”

11 05 2008

early in my career i read an article in the CTR about a performance artist whose name presently evades me. Alan something, i believe. his projects and performances weren’t events in themselves so much as they were guides to daily living. or so it seemed to me at the time. they delighted me. at any rate he was quoted as saying, as i recall, that “art is the forgetting of art.”

at the risk of over simplifying:

there is some precise truth in the quote above which is entirely reflected, perhaps unknowingly, in David Horvitz’s project which is also, in the best of all possibles, a potential source of income for a man with a lovely set of ideas.

the lovely and talented patricia schraven used this image on the invitation to a party she hosted. i wish i could have attended. it was surely more entertaining than the studio where they filmed the moon landing. or whatever.
